What parts can I use off my old motor?

My 4.0 sohc had a bad head gasket or a cracked head, on or the other or both. EWither way I picked up one from a junkyard for $400 and someone swapped it in for me for $400 plus $120 parts (fluids gaskets ect.) So now my truck runs again and I have this old motor with a cracked head or whatever, he said is was filled with coolant and everything was white inside.
What parts are worth saving? I dont know what to take off before I drop it off at a junkyard or dump. I drove home about 20miles in the rain with the motor in the bed so it got wet, whatever cant get wet like sensors I think are out of the question

If you put it outside can you put a tarp on it to keep the rain off?

Make sure you drain the oil and add some clean oil so it doesn't seize. You should be able to reuse a majority of the parts as long as you clean them up.

i agree, if you don't have the room as a single unit. tear it down. put all the pistons in a shoebox with the rings. heads are not that big are they? block by itself would be the biggest.

I agree. Plus it gives you a good test engine. So if you need to work on the one in your truck you can go do the whole thing on the engine outside the truck before you tackle it in your truck. Like replacing the timing chain and tensioner.
