My ranger is a 2WD so didnīt came with the factory fron tow hooks neither the front frame cross member. I already checked all the front hitch options that found in the forum and all of them looks very good, but this week my local Ford dealer offered me this option (Attached file).

Pros I already identified:

- Because the hook is in a low position, when the truck is stuck in mud, this help to "lift" the truck while pulling. This maybe get a different effect than just pulling from a higher position like the tow hooks at bumper level.

- This hook is centered so the forces when pulling out from mud or a hole will stay balanced, instead of pulling the truck from the regular tow hooks on bumper where each one is located with an offset from the center

- Easy install & Cheap


Cons I already identified:

- The front suspension frame cross member seems to be very stiff, but I really donīt know if it will be as strong as the front cross member where the bumper tow hooks usually are located.

To all experienced users with mud recovery and fron tow hooks please advise !

 

looks cool but have fun if you ever bury the truck in anything. Are you really going to want to dig and crawl under there to hook up a rope? Hooks are up at bumper level so you have access to them when needed. Another thing im thinking about here is when youre actually being pulled or pulling I think with the hook being so low its gonna mess up your valance pretty good.

 

too low, plus the strap could get damaged form the engine fan or belt. just do what everyone does. get a rear hitch and mount it up front. there are numerous members that have done this.

 

Chris: I think you got a point about diggin in the mud to attach the strap when stucked! that will not be cool at all !

Morris: About the fan and other moving parts my truck has the skid plate so that will not happen

It would work good in sand, if your back tires dig themselves in, but for most other instances it will be a royal pain in the ***. It's a cool concept though, and it wouldn't hurt to have it.

 

I would do a front hitch instead... but if it's that cheap then why not both?
