Hi,
I'm not looking to do anything wild with my ranger AT ALL. Just some simple bolt on stuff like a K&N cold air intake and a CAT back exhaust system. I've got the 3.0 V6 and 5spd manual transmission.
My buddy from work has a 2004 ranger edge /w 3.0L and said that the K&N cold air intake was a decent add on for the price. The site says that it'll bump up the power about 10.5hp. He noticed a small increase in fuel economy and better throttle response. Anyone else out there recommend this route? Anything better?
And just as a matter of principle, letting air in at a greater rate/more efficiently should be matched with the ability to let exhaust out at a proportional rate. So a simple CAT back exhaust add on to replace the factory setup would be nice. Can anyone out there point me in the direction of a decent system for an okay price?

Using a stock filter and taking out the snorkel that lets in the air into the air box will do about the same as a K&N will. The good thing about K&N or Airraid induction systems is you can use the same filter for practically ever lol.
As far as catback exhaust systems, you are going to get about a 100 different opinion on what you should get, whether it's magnaflow, flowmaster, dynomax etc. You can't really go wrong with any of them it just matters what sound you want.
I myself have a catback magnaflow system that was custom done at a muffler shop. This is probably the best route to go to save money. Cause in the end it will be professionally installed and you are only paying for the piping, muffler, and labor.

i agree with Jelly's Ford. i spent i want to say 380 after all said and done and i went to a exhaust shop and they had a few brands installed professionally for that price. so i would check out some shops.
Another thing about the exhaust. I believe on 3.0's the stock piping size is 2". So to gain a little more "performance" use something bigger than that but no bigger than 2.5". But that is just my opinion.
These v6's need back pressure to make power. Thus when you cut out the catalytic converters or use huge piping you are getting rid of back pressure.

I have an '03 Ford Ranger with the K&N 57 series FIPK cold air intake. Engine sounds better after install and definitely improved performance and small amount of fuel economy. I also have a Gibson 2.5" dual out the sides exhaust. LOOOVE the sound. Better torque, but no better fuel economy. I agree with everyones' statements about not going bigger than 2.5" exhaust.
