My Paint Sucks

Hi Guys, I don't know if anyone else has this problem but my 2002 xlt is Vermillion Red and the paint chips and bubbles all over the truck. Most of it is on the cab/hood area. I bought the truck used so I'm thinking that they might have got it repainted and got a crappy paint job. It's awful. anyone else have this problem? or did i get unlucky and buy my truck from a guy who spent 200 bucks on a new paint job?

Sounds like a Maaco paint job... they don't prep the vehicle like they should. I've even heard that they don't even WASH the cars (not sure it that's true or not).

I know that they just spray right over any 3D emblems and just like that.

I've seen spider cracks and small bubbles appear on the 01-03 Edge/XLT 4x4 hoods every now and again. My brother's is actually one of them. Chips are normal...mine have 'em. Any hood can have 'em on the leading edge area. Could be possible yours is a bad repaint. Or totally normal of the material. Hard to say without seeing it.

The truck is 10/11 years old. Without proper maintenance...paint can go bad fast. If the truck has never been garaged and just sits out in the elements all year long the weather can take its toll. My Bronco was garaged for the first 10 years of its life...and the paint looked new. Then I went to college and had to start parking it outside. Now the paint is in average shape.

My truck has the paint missing like picture #4... right where the hood meets the fenders when the hood is closed. I always assumed it was because of some contact.

the spots on the hood is known as "Checking" in the collision business. Its when there was too much material is used or if you've ever had body work (the most common) the bondo is cracking.
Has your hood ever been painted?

The inner fender is because of the years of wear and tear.

I'm assuming the previous owner had the entire truck repainted. It's the worst on the hood and roof.

Blemishes all seem normal to me. Earlier I mentioned my brothers Edge hood and it's got the same stuff going on. I had a spare and so did he....and all 3 had similar defects.

yea it sucks, I think I'm going to take it off and get it repainted. It will at least make me feel better if my hood doesn't look so crappy. The roof no one sees. I think I know a guy who can give me a hookup. Just another thing to add to the list of stuff I gotta buy for the Ranger.
