I have a 2001 ranger edge with the 4.0. It's my spare truck and gets started and ran about every week or two. Last night I started it right up no prob, got about 1/2 mile up the road ,stopped at a stop sign and she died.wont re-start ,no dash lights,no headlights, no dome light .battery is good, but tried jumping it anyways.also tried a hard reset(disconnect battery,clamp cables together) .checked fuses and can't find any blown ones. I'm running out of things to check, and can't find any past threads with the same problems. Any ideas guys? Any help is appreciated

 

Well start with what you know you say you have no headlights or anything? No radio, etc? It's something electrical. follow your wires from your battery terminals and check for loose parts/breaks and repair as needed. Check all fuses inside and out.

 

When I leave the key in the ign I can hear a relay in the cab clicking on its own. And I noticed my theft light on the dash is still working, not flashing fast but every 5 or so seconds

 

What happens if you turn on headlights? Or turn the key?

How do you know the battery is good? What are you getting across the terminals voltage wise?

 

Nothing when I try to turn on lights, or turn key.battery is a two month old optima yellow top, I'm getting 13ish volts at the posts

 

Have you checked the alernator and its plugs? I have heard some of the alternator plugs melting and taking a dump.

 

Ok it's been a week, haven't had time to go into depth on this truck, the key dinger runs constantly and the relays under the dash are clicking away but still no lights no turn -over. I checked under the hood everything looks ok

 

I had a problem like this, and it turned out to be my alternator wiring was shot
