Hello. New to the forums. I am looking into getting an intake but every website i see such as K&N or AEM only offer intakes for 95+. Would one from a 95 work on my 93? I posted this in the v6 4.0 section and no one responded. sorry for double posting but i really need help. Thanks

 

No, you might be able to make it fit but no.

Just FYI, all fuel injected Ford Rangers already have Cold Air Intakes(CAIs).
Adding another type won't hurt power if done right, but will hurt power if done wrong.
It, for sure, won't increase power, that has been dyno-ed by many independent testers.

CAIs did improve power on the old carb model engines, so manufacturers added it when switching to fuel injection.

A 3rd party CAI can make a better "sound" than stock, and nothing wrong with that, looking good and "sounding good" matters to many people.

 

so what would be a brand to get just for sound and looks?

 

Not sure.

1995 was the start of EEC-V computers and OBD II(2)
Pre-'95 used EEC-IV computers and OBD I(1)

But that shouldn't effect intake setup.
1990-2000 Ranger 4.0l's all used MAF and were distributorless, so are basically the same engine as far as entering air and computer reading that flow(MAF)
So I don't know why the cutoff at 1995 model year

 

Just about every vehicle with EFI hasa cold air intake that's routed with the filter and inlet in the corner by the fender. On my 93 explorer, which im pretty sure is set up like the ranger, k&n makes the replacement type filter to go in place of the old one. My other explorer (a 99) had one of those DIY ebay smooth chrome intake tubes with the k&n cone filter adapter to the housing for the MAF sensor. So buying a full intake kit just isn't worth the up to 300 bucks. Just get the k&n replacement, or get a hi flow cone type filter and with a little work can fit on the stock intake tube. You can even do it the fancy way and get an ebay intake tube. It'll make the same results, but for like half the price.

 

leave it stock. aftermarket intakes on a ranger are the biggest waste of money unless you like to give it away and want higher IAT's

 

Your best bet is to just get a good quality filter and do a little trimming on the airbox to let some more air flow. An intake kit is really just for show. A good filter is really the best bet. Ive never tried this, but i heard that porting the throttle body helps. There's also larger throttle bodies that you can buy if you don't want to do the porting. They say that it makes up to 10 or so hp. I haven't confirmed it personally, but ive read about it.

Yup. Thats the one i mentioned. Just go to advance auto parts or some place like that and ask for the right one. you'll get about as much of a power gain as a full intake kit. A full intake and or getting a cone filter, which will give you the 3 to 5 extra horsepower too, is mainly just for the looks really.

No problem. Im pretty sure you can go to advance auto or autozone, etc's website and look up the right one and get the part number, or even just go to k&n's website. I do that when looking for my filters.
