1 piece driveshaft

I have a 97 2wd extended cab 2.3 with a 5 speed manual tranny. I hate the split driveshaft set up. I have found a few people updating to the one piece. Do you really have to bend and cut things to make it work. I understand removing the center bearing mount but I do not want to remove the cross member or cut the floor. What is your feedback and what needs to be done. It is 2wd.... Thanks!

If the truck is stock height, i.e. not lifted or lowered, then just removing the center carrier support is all that is needed

Yes, on a '92 Ranger, but many years ago.

Good read here: Ford Ranger one piece rear driveshaft swap

Thanks Ron! Read that but mine is 2wd so I wasn't sure how different it would be.

I,too, would like to ditch my two piece driveshaft for a single shaft. Does anyone know if there is a difference between using an aluminum shaft or a steel one?
My truck is a 4.0 2WD Supercab, 5 speed OD manual trans, stock height, only mods are to the engine.
