2001 Ranger XLT 4.0 auto
2001 Ranger XLT 4.0 auto
Hello
I put in a new motor in this ranger which now has about 8,000 miles on it. It has never gotten great gas mileage 12 to 15 MPG, but I have noticed in the last couple months that the gas mileage has gotten horrible 8 to 10 MPG. I have always made sure to fill up my tank when it got down around ¼ tank or higher. One time I let it get below ¼. It seems to me that after I did that is when I started noticing a marked difference in my gas mileage. I am trying to figure out if letting my gas get that low caused something to malfunction and what I need to do to correct the problem. I was thinking maybe a fuel system flush and replacing the fuel filter. Any other suggestions/reasons as to why this occurred? granted as far as I know it has the original 02 sensors and cats with 183K . Truck runs like a champ & no bad cats smell.
