Odd wire

Odd wire

Noticed a exposed sliver wire it looks out of place I followed and it was wrapped with two wire a green with purple and a yellow with purple any ideas what the wire is ?

Might be a Shield wire for Crank or Cam sensor
It would be grounded at one end, so you can test it with OHM meter to Ground, should be 0 or very low OHMs

Shield wires are used with sensors that have a Pulse type signal, not just straight voltage signal, it prevents outside signals from disrupting the pulse, "shields it"

What year Ranger and what engine?
