instrument cluster lamps

I changed the bulbs in the cluster since the temp and fuel gauges do not illuminate. They all work BUT the temp and fuel still do not work. What could be the issue? These are the small bulbs ( 73 I believe ) and I pulled them out of the plastic twist base and reused the base.
Could the base be the issue or is the cluster going south?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds reasonable that the base could cause it. I replaced mine some time ago but don't remember there being any issue with the base...

You should be able to swap the light/base assembly with a know good one and see if the issue follows the suspected bad one - ?

I did the same on my rig. 1 of the little 74s I used had a little residue on the contacts inside the socket and the contact patch the sockets twist on to.

I cleaned them up and bam. Working meow.

Question: Did you use LED lights or the incandescent?

If you did the LED lights, a lot of them are polarized (positive/negative), and if installed the wrong way...will not work. Twist the other position and they should be good to go.

Incandescents can be installed either way.

More and more are doing "error-free" (can be installed either way) to help the consumer who constantly screws things up like me

I used the incandescent. Corrosion on the contacts makes sense. Thanks for the replay.
