can anyone tell me if issues with on board computer (nav, audio, phone etc) are common with 2016 Ranger or do I just have a lemon?

Unfortunately, our Rangers, 1983 to 2011, are much different than your T6 Rangers, we call them international Rangers since we could never import them here
Ford did just start making 2019 Ranger here which is similar to yours but not alot of info here on these yet
