2.3 cam timing

Hey yall currently in the middle of doing another timing belt. This one ripped after 30k miles. Doing some other preventive maintenance while im at it. Almost done actually but quick question. So every video I see for setting the timing is for when the belt DOESNT rip. In my case the belt did rip so I read on the forum you had to do it differently. Anyways I have the crank in time (keyhole at 12) I have the oil pump in time. But what im struggling with is the cam. We line the cam up. Pull the tensioner and slide the belt on and it will jump forward a tooth. At least it looks like it. The best my eye can see the triangle is never exactly lined up its really close but either a little bit too far past or not enough. My question is what am I doing wrong? Do I put the belt on and spin the crank until every mark is lined up? Or do I just have to keep playing with the cam till its lined up? Kind of frustrating

I think you are over thinking it

There are no 1/2 tooths, so it you are within a 1/2 tooth either way its good

Okay seems like the diamond on the cam would be at 12 but the triangles weren’t perfectly lined up. Im trying to avoid putting it all back together to find its out of time

Do a compression test on #1 after belt is in place, 2.3l should be over 150psi, under 120psi is out of time
