more power with 4.0l SOHC v6?
any simple way i can increase more power without decreasing reliability? will a bigger exhaust and better air intake be good? or will i need more steps to notice a difference
I think the exhaust is a little restrictive and installed a Gibson cat back exhaust very soon after I bought the truck in 01. I don't think I gained a lot of power but it sounds better and feels like it added a little power through the mid range and up. The best thing I did was purchase a tuner that reflashed the computer. I did some before and after acceleration tests to check if it made any difference. The conclusion was: Yes, it made a difference. The 87 octane performance tune improved 40 - 70 mph acceleration by 0.7 seconds and 50 to 80 mph by 0.45 seconds. The 91 octane torque tune also improve the 40 - 70 mph acceleration by 0.7 seconds but the 50 - 80 mph acceleration improved by 1.2 seconds.
My tuner was done by Bama and is no longer available. I am sure there are still other tuners that are good but you need to make sure they know what they are doing. There are some available that do nothing.
