2001 Ranger 2.3 Fuel pump woes
2001 Ranger 2.3 Fuel pump woes
I ordered a fuel pump from Rock Auto the other day. I bought a PN FG0873 Delphi pump assembly. It's too long to go into the tank properly. Its the pump for a 112" wheel base model which I have. I don't know if the pump is boxed wrong or what.....I'm tempted to order the pump for the other wheel base. Does anybody know the difference?Did Delphi just put the wrong pump in the box? Everything else is correct with the replacement but the length of the cage.........thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum
Rangers had 2 gas tank sizes 16.5gal and 19.5gallon
Regular cabs usually have 16.5gal
Extended cabs had 19.5gal, and regular cab long bed had 19.5gal
Never ordered by wheel base but yes its the wrong one if its too tall for tank
111" is correct for regular cab so 16.5gal tank, so probably wrong one in the box

Here is what I did. I notice the cage is spring loaded . I think maybe " one size fits all?" I did not like the idea of just pushing the pump into the tank and I did not have enough hands to do that and screw the collar down. I took a few zip ties and " loaded " the cage to the height of the original pump and ballabing. Truck runs. Truck runs good. I suspect the pump was getting weak. I had noticed my truck was a little sluggish lately. Its happy again!
