Ignition bypass 94 Ranger
Ignition bypass 94 Ranger
I am trying to wire in a push button start in my 1994 Ford Ranger XLT. 2.3L, 5-speed.
My current issue is that I haven’t been able to locate the ignition switch. The location isn’t mentioned in any of the forums I’ve read, or the removal instructions.
I have the switch(es) I’m going to run in front of my button, but I don’t want to just start cutting random wires to find the hot one.

Welcome to the forum
Ignition switch is under the steering column above brake pedal area, but that's probably not what you want if you just want a push button start
I assume you still want a key lock???
On a manual transmission there will be a switch on the clutch pedal push rod, 4 or 6 wires, looks like this: https://www.justanswer.com/uploads/e...5_180940_3.png
There will be 2 wires at one end of the switch, a red/blue and a pink wire
When clutch pedal is DOWN all the way these two wires are connected
The red/blue wire comes from ignition switch, and it will have 12volts when key is turn to START
The pink wire runs out to engine bay, changes into a red/blue wire at firewall, then is connected to the fender mounted starter relay(solenoid), small "S" post
When key is turned to START 12v travels thru the red/blue wire to clutch switch, and passes to Pink wire and goes to starter relay to activate it
So you can hijack a Key On 12volt wire, run it to a momentary contact switch/button on the dash and then a wire from that switch to the red/blue wire on the clutch switch, assuming you want to keep the SAFETY switch which I recommend
If not splice it to the pink wire and starter can be activated without pressing down the clutch pedal, so a big OOPS if it is in gear, lol
