I got a 99 ranger with Manuel windows and locks but I got doors at the wrecking yard that have power everything and was wondering what all I would need to switch it? And is it something that’s gonna be a lot of work?
First is "what do you consider alot of work?", lol
And second, what is your end game?
Do you want Factory power group, or just working power windows and door locks
For the power windows pretty much everything you need is in the doors you have, just add 12volts and ground
You need to drill out the rivets on manual window regulators, and then add 1 or maybe 2 holes and bolt in the power window regulators
Then you need key on FUSED 12volt power to each door, so 2 wires, and then 2 wires from drivers door to passenger door(assuming you want to use Master switch in drivers door)
And 1 ground wire for drivers door switch
5 wires
And that's it
You wouldn't have "one touch" up and down, that was part of GEM module
Power door locks are ALOT more complicated depending on what you want as the end result, most of the power door lock system was under the dash not in the doors
Because you need relays, at least 2 of them, all unlock and all lock, Ranger had a 3rd
If you would like to have keyless entry(Fobs) then its better to just buy a universal kit to install, it comes with the relays, power locks and the Fobs
You could rig it up so button locked and unlocked that one door, but need the relays to do both doors with one button
Wel I got 2 new doors that have the power windows and locks in them right now that have the wires for the motor and all
the other stuff cut outside the door I was just wondering like what all do I need to grab off the truck at the wrecking yard to get them to work for my truck? Or is it easier to just wire something up oh and I tried doing 12 bolts to 1 door by itself just to see if I could get the windows going up and down and it started cooking the wire
For power windows its easier to just add the 5 wires
Wire size matters, 12gauge would be needed for all 5 wires, and a 20amp fuse on the shared 12v wire to each door
Battery(12v)---20amp fuse--------split to 2 doors<========
And a 12gauge ground wire, comes out of drivers door and is grounded behind kick panel
Its a DC circuit so 12v and ground must carry exactly the same AMPs, 12gauge wire is rated as 25amps 12volt for 10-12feet
So both wires need to be rated for maximum amps of that circuit
Each motor draws 6-8amps, so if both windows are operating at the same time that 12-16amps, on that one ground wire
20amp fuse because 12ga wire is rated at 25amp max, if you used a 30amp fuse then the WIRE BECOMES THE FUSE, if amps got to 28amps, wire would start to heat up and melt, often shorting out with a SMOKE SHOW, lol
So you always use a fuse rated BELOW the wire size on the circuit, or no point in even having a fuse
Test each Motor by unplugging its 2 wire connector and connecting a Ground wire and then a 12volt wire, one to one, its a DC motor so 12v/ground turns motor one way, ground/12v turns it the other way, up and down
So just reverse 12v and ground at the 2 wire connector to run the window up and down for full travel each way to see if there are any issues
For door locks you need most of the under and behind dash equipment and relays, GEM module(behind radio) with RAP module,(behind drivers seat) and Relay box 1(above gas pedal), and their wiring harnesses to connect them and the doors
So not "easy" at all
You know this off the top of your head? That’s insane I’m gonna follow all of that and just try getting the windows for now cause the locks I’m fine doing by hand until I get the stuff but that k you so much I tried going to the yard and looked in the truck for what all I had to get but I would have had to drop the whole dash and then do the same to mine
I didn’t know those where a thing till after I bought the doors so I was hoping I wouldn’t have to spend another 200 and have doors I can’t use lol but yeah I will probably have to do that
Your taking about buying the conversion kit you put in manual windows? Think that’s what I’m doing to just gonna use the panels off my power window doors and buy the kit
