I have a 2021 3.2 Ranger with an ARB long range fuel tank and am tossing around the idea of putting a 3 inch exhaust on.
Questions are
A, is it worth it
i Fuel Economy
ii increase power (I tow a 3 tonne caravan)
B. Rough cost

Cat back 3" exhaust
It will give it a lower tone exhaust
Like a pipe organ, bigger longer pipe = lower notes

No, won't add any power
Not the way exhaust works since the 1940s

It would be a custom exhaust so you would need to get quotes from at least 2 exhaust shops, independents, Chain shops just bolt on stock exhaust, wouldn't even have a pipe bender any more, lol


Exhaust modifications
In the early 1940s, people(hotroders) were playing around with Scavenging exhaust
What they found was you could use smaller pipes at the heads, to create a Velocity in the smaller pipes which dumped into larger collector pipes and you could "tune the exhaust" to get extra power for FREE
You could tune it for low RPM, or mid RPM, or high RPM
Scavenged power creates a LOWER pressure at the exhaust ports at a specific RPM, so exhaust is SUCKED out of the head, which leaves more power on the crank for the rear wheels, the closer engine is to that specific RPM the more free power, so low band power or mid band power or high band power
And "Headers" were born
Car makers saw this and incorporated it in there cast exhaust manifolds, pretty much all factory exhaust manifolds are tuned for mid RPM power

And this is were the MYTH of "back pressure" came from
"Free flow" exhaust
People who didn't know factory exhaust is Tuned, would put on larger pipes at the heads, free flow system
Then go for a drive
"WTF!!!!, I LOST POWER!!!?????"
"This engine must need back pressure"
LOL
No, no 4-stroke engine needs back pressure, clogged exhaust KILLS power
They simple removed the ADDED power from the Factory Scavenging exhaust system
And the MYTH begins

Changing Cat back is fine, nothing to do with power though

 

My guess is OP is not in North America
The 3.2 is a diesel
The ARB long range tank is Australian

And the words tonne and caravan
