Water Pump replacement
Water Pump replacement
Hi All
2010 ford Ranger 4.0 L
Question: Is that 36mm nut on the fan clutch right hand or left hand thread?
Some Youtube videos say right hand and one I watched was left hand (normal threads)
Thanks

Its standard thread, lefty loosy/righty tighty
Easy way to tell on most engines is to look at the water pump pulley, if pulley has ribs(like crank pulley) then its Reverse threads, if pulley is smooth(no ribs) then its regular threads
Assuming serpentine belt of course :)
Most engine crank shafts spin counter clockwise, so any pulley with ribs will also be spinning counter clockwise, so regular threads could loosen up
Smooth pulley means it spins clockwise(smooth part of belt), so regular thread would remain tight or tighten up more, lol
The 3.0l Ranger engine used reverse thread on fan clutch, and has a ribbed water pump pulley, lol

A couple of ways to break loose the Pump~FanClutch Nut on the V6~4.0L~SOHC:
~ "By The Book" using a SinglePurposeWrench
~ "By The Hook" per Vid below; I'd first try breaking it loose with SerpBelt still on.
