2001 4.0 SOCH AUTOMATIC TRANS. WILL NOT START
2001 4.0 SOCH AUTOMATIC TRANS. WILL NOT START
Okay so I bought a 2001 Ranger Edge 4.0 Soch and the timing cassette were broken front and back. Got new ones put in and it would start and then die. I couldn't figure it out why. So I put a new fuel filter on it and now it won't start. I tore it down checked all vacuum lines fuel lines and change spark plugs and wires still won't catch. Does anyone know what the problem is
Welcome to the forum
Do 50/50 test
Spray fuel into the engine and try to start it
If it starts, runs then dies you have a fuel delivery issue, i.e. pump or injectors
If it doesn't start then No spark or no compression
50/50 instant results
If no start then test compression FIRST, one cylinder on each side of the engine, 165psi is expected
Since timing chains were replaced maybe it was mistimed or has slipped, 4.0l SOHC uses friction fit timing not key ways so can slip after assembly

If you sprayed fuel into the engine and it didn't fire/start
Then you have no spark or no compression, only 2 options
If you think you have spark, then there is no compression, only option
Borrow or rent a compression gauge and test 1 cylinder on each side, just to take compression off the table, or to find out it is the problem so you don't waste time on non-fixes
When you turn on the key, the CEL(check engine light) will come on, that means the computer(cpu) is powered up
When you crank the engine over the CEL should go OFF, that means the computer is getting a good timing signal from crank sensor, so will start Spark and fuel injectors
If this happens the "cpu" is OK, as is
