2004 Ford Ranger V6 4x4 shocks replace?

Current original mileage on this truck is now at 55k. At what mileage should I consider replacing all 4 shocks (keep in mind it still has the 18 yr old OEM shocks) and I am open to suggestions on what brand shocks would be best? A part model or part number and where to buy the shocks would help.

Thanks!

I also bought my ranger from my father in-law. replace them at 73K but that was after a major suspension upgrade with 4" lift. So yeah.

Cool keeping it in the family. I bet that lift looks great, what lift did you go with?

I ran my original shocks for a looonnnggg time. I believe I replaced them in 2016, so I would have had over 100,000 miles on the truck at that point.

My 2002 still had the original shocks at 72k, but I replaced them due to the lowering kit.

Thanks, I may just wait a bit longer on replacing with Monroe or Bilsteins.

Keep in mind that when I replaced mine, they would not rebound so were pretty worn out. I'm pretty sure the 2002 was the same way. You're probably okay for now, but in the next few thousand miles I would consider replacing them.

I read somewhere that shocks and struts don't "rebound" like they used to.
In other words, the old stand on the bumper and 'jump down on it to get off it' test doesn't produce the same results.
I wish I could tell you more.

There was a heaved concrete pad which produced an 8" drop to the blacktopped parking lot behind a store.
I'd get a vehicle to go over the edge at speed (30mphish) and if the vehicle steadied OK, it's shocks were OK.
