Icon9 Dome Light Leaking Water

Hello All!

I just purchased my 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L V6 about two months ago, and have done several repairs on it since then. None of them have been super major repairs. Anywho. I was driving to work this morning after heavy rain in my area and noticed that the dome light inside the truck was leaking water from it. I haven't noticed this before. But then again it's been in my garage for almost 2 months now doing repairs and such. So it's been out of the weather for the most part. Does anyone know why this would be leaking water? Or where it would be coming from? The headliner does not look damaged. It looks brand new. So, I'm wondering if this was an issue with the previous owner as well. I do not know him personally and would have no way of asking him.

Not an uncommon issue on Pickups with the 3rd brake light on the top rear of the cab, that's usually where the water is coming from

Google: Ford Ranger 3rd brake light leak repair

The gasket Ford uses there is not very good. I just put silicone on both sides of the gasket and reinstalled. That makes it difficult to remove but it doesn't leak anymore.

Ok so I have this same exact problem on my 99 b3000 4x4 but also need help am new here so don't mean to jack your thread sooo heres my story. Third brake light was the main culprit for the water stains in the headliner the water would get in through the third brake lights gasket i tried putting silicone it didn't work. the problem continued so I also assumed perhaps it was the back windows so placed a bead of silicone. That didnt do any good either when the gasket on that brake light gets so worn you just must order a new one on ebay preferably not like the one I got bc the gasket is foam and as a plumber I know a foam gasket is nothing compared to rubber however the oem one did last 25 years until I got it not too bad lol. but until i replaced that third brake light and it came in the water finally stopped we had heavy rains and so the water started getting into my dome light forsure and now they both stay on all the time lmfao so I had to disconnect the dome light and my third brake light. i believe i either gotta take apart my interior and find the short because I cleaned everything off WD40 Dried it out lights turn on but all stay on third brake light included. any ideas i believe it may be something to do with the interior lamp relay switch possibly? not sure didn't see any blown fuses but ill look again was pretty tired that day.

Welcome to the forum

You should always start your own thread, and use paragraphs, lol

What I read is that you have a water leak in the cab and tried to seal 3rd brake light, didn't work
But got a new gasket and that did work
So no more water leak

But now the Dome light and the "cargo light"(not 3rd brake light) stay on all the time

Does the dash "Door Ajar" light work?
Does it come on when a door is open, so bulb is not burned out
That turns on the Dome light, this is done by GEM module and the Interior Light relay

There is a switch inside each door that can stick "closed" so GEM turns on dome light full time, because it "thinks" a door is open

Yes, the dimmer switch on the dash can also turn on Dome and cargo light(white) when rotated all the way "up"

The 3rd brake light(red) has no connection to dome or cargo light in the wiring

The dash door ajar light works per usual but the door chime no longer sounds the cargo light stays on aswell as the dome light i can try turning down the dimmer i know it is switched up right now it worked fine until i had that heavy rain storm.
