Backup light switch

I swapped out clutch in a ‘03 Ranger 3.0. Everything works great other than my reverse lights won’t come on now. I damaged the backup light switch when I was taking out the Tran, so bought a new one, but as I said reverse lights aren’t working. Maybe it’s not torqued enough? Torqued too much? Anyone know what the torque specs on it are?

Welcome to the forum

Well there is this post: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...d-r1hd-150926/

When you say you broke the reverse switch when removing transmission, could the small rod inside the trans have fallen out?
Looks like this: https://www.transmissionpartsdistrib...ford-mazda-87/

The small rod just slides out, as said in first post you can use a magnet to see if its still in there

Just to test the wires
Unplug wires from switch
Install a jumper wire to connect the 2 wires together
Turn on the key
See if reverse lights are on
If not you have a wiring issue or blown fuse, check fuse 2 in cab fuse box
If they are on then yes, its a switch issue

Simple fix but more problems

I was wondering what that little rod went to once I had everything put back together 😆. I put it up and held on to it and certainly glad I did! Thank you for your help! But now I have ran into another issue…. Put the rod in, put it in reverse to see if lights were working and they did for a split second then went off, A/C stopped working, and air bag light came on on the dash. Fuse 2 ya say? Maybe and hopefully that’s all it is. I got to thinking maybe I exposed some raw wire when taking the Tran out. Guess we’ll see.

Yes, fuse 2 powers several things you mentioned and a few more
And if it only blew after Reverse light switch was connected and trans put into reverse then should be fairly simple to find the shorted wire

12volt runs from fuse 2 to the switch with Key On, and fuse didn't blow, so that wire is OK
Only when the other wire, or the new switch is connected/used does the fuse blow
