Blower motor works, no air in vent
Blower motor works, no air in vent
I hooked up my blower motor to a 12V power supply thinking it was that and and it turned on. It also has resistance, but no air came out of my vents. I have AC in all and this just happened out of the blue, I know my truck dosnt have a cabin air filter and its a mesh screen usually there or something of the sort, but i dont have that either it looks like, my defroster works so I’m thinking this is some sort of vacuum problem near my glove box I just need to know what part to look for

Welcome to the forum
Yes, if you have a 1995 or later Ranger, and fan works but air only comes out the Defrost Vents then its a Vacuum issue for sure
1983 to 1994 Rangers used Cable Controlled Vents
1995 to 2011 Rangers used Vacuum Controlled Vents
Always good to include the Year of the Ranger with a question
Assuming 1995 or later
There will be a Vacuum Reservoir in the engine bay
Often called "vacuum ball", looks like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/H4QAA...1s/s-l1200.jpg
Has 2 vacuum ports
One is connected to engine vacuum, upper intake
The other goes to the firewall and thru it to the Climate Control panel on the dash
In most years the vacuum ball is located on passenger side in front of the tire's wheel wheel, seen here with fender removed: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...obe-jpg.39621/
You don't need to remove the fender to get to it, lol, but it is a pain to find it/see it unless you know where to look
As said there will be a hose that runs from the Ball to the firewall on passenger side, hard black plastic vacuum hose so "looks like" a wire, it runs on top of the frame rail
This hose can crack or melt near exhaust, and 90% of the time that's the problem
So find and follow this hose, it can be repair using regular rubber vacuum hose of correct size that fits snug on the plastic line, no clamps are needed
5% can be the vacuum hose from the engine to the ball, its unplugged or otherwise cut off, so follow that hard plastic hose to the upper intake
Other 5% will be a cracked Vacuum Ball, can happen, just not as common as failed vacuum lines
There is usually no problems in the cab with this system, 100% of the problems are in the engine bay, no vacuum is getting to the cab side

Hey ron I appreciate the help, im sorry this is my first thread. I know the vac ball and what it looks like and i do appreciate the link and al, you are a very good explainer for sure, i do see that one of the lines coming from my firewall is capped off (heater core bypassed on this truck) but the other was broken in half connecting to my ball and i put my finger on the end of it and felt vac, so im assuming this is my issue and you have explained and reminded me very well on how to diag this so i do appreciate your help, i will try repair quickly and get back to u. Thanks ron!
Yes the grey vacuum line to heater bypass valve can be disconnected as long as its capped, it only has vacuum in MAX AC and OFF settings in cab
Its there to shut off hot coolant flow into the cab when "maximum AC" is required, lol

thanks again ron, picked up some type of small fuel line that fits snug over original line, its very brittle but that’s expected on a 98 with almost 230k on it. Thanks alot ron really helful especially for such an ez fix i should have knew thanks for the guidance
