Trying to decipher what was done to my ranger to potentially hook up an amp again. (Long story short, nice speakers are being underpowered by stereo right now, leading to cutting in and out. Car originally had a JL 600/6 AMP, as reported by user @vetters77 ).
Digging around in the cab and unwound a cable bundle under the rear sliding window and found this (attached picture).
Black and yellow wires are taped together, going from one b/y to 3 other b/y. From what I’ve gleaned, these wires lead to the rear doors’ ajar switches (correct?). They definitely go to the 4 wires that go into the rear doors, but I can fathom why there are 3 and not just 2…
Anyone have any logical reason as to why these would be modified to connect to one HOT IN RUN wire?
p.s. Wiring diagrams and service manuals coming for Christmas already. Got tired of guessing/testing all the time :)
Yes, the black/yellow wires are the grounds for 3 door switches, the drivers door is on a separate circuit because it activates "Headlights on" chime or "key left in ignition" chime.
So the 3 black/yellow wires go to the 2 rear doors and the passenger front door
The door switches have no power(12v), they are OPEN when door is closed, and CLOSED(grounded) when door is open
The SJB just detects when a door switch is grounded, and turns on the Door Ajar Light, and the Dome light

Ah, got it. Makes much more sense. I’m guessing that line was cut for one reason or another (maybe amp related, since TREMOR is mentioned at that splice) and the fix chosen was to just ground all to one wire, since they are functionally the same. Either way, everything functions as expected, so shouldn’t cause any problems (hopefully).
