I recently pulled the engine to upgrade the cassette tensioners and want to confirm the correct position for the cam shafts before I torque them down. Followers are removed, so valves won’t actuate. I bought a cam tool to hold the cam position while torquing, but the component that attaches to the rear of the cam is supposed to sit flush and it doesn’t. It does hold the cam at the correct angle, but can also hold off by 180. Found a detailed video to do the work, but wasn’t a great view of the left side. The left side cam has a nub at the end of it and I found a pic (see below)that says nub up is the correct orientation to torque. Can anyone confirm that to be correct? Thanks in advance for the help.
The tool I used can only hold the cam in one position. If you can hold the cam in more than one position, you are doing something wrong, or the tool is not right.
Got it figured out. Tool I got was for the 4015cc and I needed 245ci. It held the correct orientation just didn’t sit fully in the slot on the cam. Pic is correct FYI. Exchanged for the correct tool. Cheers.
