shielded intake?
i have herd of this insted of snorkling a truck first off how do you do it and how afective is it?

 

im guessing you mean just adding a splash gaurd to the cone filter.... not much diffrent then a stock airbox, just kinda defeats the point of the cone....

itll protect against splashes but if you have 2 feet of water youll be screwd w/o a snorkel....

 

yea thats what i thought i want to snorkle my truck kinda but i dont think they make them for rangers corect me if im wrong

 

no theres none for rangers, theyve all been custom fabbed...

 

its alot cheaper to just fab one up yourself mine only cost $25 compared to the price of buying one. plus you get the satisfaction of making it yourself.

 

I believe a "shielded" intake means it's wrapped in a heat shield, therefor decreasing the temperature of the air entering the engine. Since cold air is more combustable (dense) than hot, it makes the engine run better, produces more power, and increases gas mileage.

This can be achieved by simply wrapping a header-wrap material around the intake tube. Header wrap is designed to reduce radiant heat.

 

^^ that won't really do anyhting either, maybe 1 or 2 hp at the most.

 

Won't even do that, since the air is moving too fast to gain or lose any heat from a 2 foot pipe. You'll end up trapping moisture and the pipe will rust (assuming you have an aftermarket metal intake).
