I have a 2000 flareside, and from what I understand, there are no stake pockets. I was wondering what some of you have done to make tiedown places on the bed. I have a plastic bed cap on the top I can use but I don't think it's sturdy enough to secure a load. Any ideas or help would to make something close to a stake pocket type tiedown would be appreciated.
(I can't pull the cap off to look at it in person right now cuz it's cold and snowing... and I'm a wimp )

 

Theres a track system you can put on the bed rails but your cap wont fit then.The track system allows you to custom place tie downs

 

you should have tie downs in all four corners... if not get some D rings or buy some tie downs from dealer/online

ive got a set that ive never installed if you want them...

 

my splash had tie downs in all the corners stock

 

All Ranger's have D-rings bolted to the stake pocket lower portion inside the bed. It was a factory standard.

 

^^ my stepside does not have the d-rings in the bed.

mine didnt have D rings it had like boat tie downs is what it looked like

 

So I may have pockets hidden under the caps. Or it's possible that there are D rings hidden behind the bedliner that is in it?

 

On a flareside there are no D rings. Like Zach said there are tie downs that look like boat tie downs. If your truck has a drop in bedliner they probably removed them so the liner would sit down flush on the bed.

 

mine had a liner it is supposed to get re-attached back on but some people forget them

 

also, the stepside beds are fiberglass, so I dont think it would be a good idea to put any anchors or anything on top where the stake pockets would normally be on trucks.

 

Fiberglass is strong, so strong ive got a truck rack mounted on mine, no problems and i carry alot of lumber daily.

 

While we're talking about the little "D" rings, does anyone know what they are rated at? I've looked a million places and can't find anything about their strength.

I was thinking more about a pulling force on it.....like if you were to tie a dirtbike down, you have to tie the front down pretty tight. It may be supported more than I think in that area.

Okay, I see what you guys are saying. I have the little boat tie down looking things in there, the two little screws attatching them just don't seem all that "beefy" for holding stuff down to me. Thanks for all the responses.

 

you would be HIGHLY suprised what those will hold down there grade 8 bolts bolted into metal not the fiberglass. there not towing something just holding it down...

 

bad thing is those boat type tie downs bend real bad. I just hook my straps to the inside of the bed rails on my stepside bed to hold down my dirt bike. seems to work well and has not bent the inner metal out at all.

Also, under the bed caps on my flareside, there are no stake pockets.

 

I used some motorcycle tie down ratchet straps to hold my three wheeler in my flareside and used those factory bed tie downs all the time. Never bent on me. You guys torque'n em down or something? lol

 

I think I was putting a vertical force on them as well when it was tiedown, so that had an effect on the bending, but they are pretty weak.

 

Alright thanks. Hearing everyone else gives me more confidence in their abbilities. I haven't used them much but I think I will definitely use them more often. When we go to our land, I always end up with the wierd stuff that won't fit in the mini-van, and it can be "interesting" trying to find a good way to secure stuff. In a couple weeks I have to take a McDonalds style picnic bench out there (Why?????). Well, I do as I am told... So, thanks to everyone for the help, I really appreciate it! :)
