hey im wondering if anyone knows what the wight is on a bass boat. I looking to buy one and i wanted to see if my ranger could handle it, but none of the owners list weights or know what the weight is on there boats. I belive iv read my truck has a Maximum Towing Capacity of 5620.00 lbs. Its a 4.0L Auto w/ 4.10's. I couldnt belive a boat could weight more than that but i dont know

 

depends on the boat.....what type, style, size, engine size?

what year is your truck?

 

Iv got a 2003... i dont know anything on the boat, iv just started looking but i think most bass boats are around 20' i think

 

You will be able to pull it fine, but I would invest in a good heavy duty auxilary trans cooler just to be safe...

 

some boats, espically the older 1's are extremely heavy....

 

let me know what kind of boats you are looking at (year, model, brand) and I can get you some numbers, but my boat is 5500 loaded with the trailer. I think anything you find will be allot less than that, which is why i said you sould be fine....

 

Im looking for a cheaper boat so im sure its going to be older... i havent found anything iv liked yet and the selection here sucks.

 

But you are looking at Bass boats right?

Edit: Here this link is for a 21 foot new bass boat with a 225hp Mercury optimax outboard. The boat motor and trailer weigh 3100 pounds. Plus on something like this, there is really no wind resistance since it sits lower than the truck. pulling this would be easy...

Yes a bass boat... i would love that one ^^^^ but im looking for something cheaper so im figuring it'll be older a heavier, but ya low profile and the same type of boat... probably just a late 90's- an early 00's model unless i find a really cheap boat of an older year.

 

Well 90's isn't really older in terms of technology, I would say depending on size and motor you are looking at 2500-3500 pounds....

Either way, you will have plenty of pep to pull it, but like I said, trans cooler. Some people will tell you that you don't need it, but it is cheap insurance trust me...

Yeah you do, but these trans' runs hot. Get yourself a nice 25,000 GVW auxilary (external) cooler and mount it infront of the radiator (low). I pulled my boat with my old truck with just that and annual trans oil changes and it was just starting to slip at 160K, I would say it handled the abuse well..

 

Now theres a cooler mounted infront of my radiator already and i followed the lines back to the tranny... is this it our am i seeing something different

 

If you have one there already, I would just replace it with a bigger better one. The one from the factory is probably light duty since there really isn't a "towing" package for a ranger....

 

I was a boat engineer for a few years. (bow riders and jet ski's)

Generally the weight of a boat is underrated as compaired to it's "sticker".

In the 20ft bass boat arena you'll be fine. If you tow it often, just change the tranny fluid every 15k miles.
