Lately I've been thinking a lot about what it would take to make my truck offroad-capable(I'm talkin' wooded trails and maybe surf fishing beaches, not really muddy trails and rock crawling). From what I've read on this forum and elsewhere I will probably be ok for what I want to do if I get some bigger tires(and maybe a lift) and a locker of some sort. I'm also definitely gonna need to install tow hooks front and rear. With 2wd, bfg a/ts, a locker, and recovery equipment I should be ok in 90% of situations, from what I'm reading. If I'm completely wrong on that part please let me know so I won't keep on dreamin'!

That's a bit of an investment for me though, so I was wondering if anyone around the de/md/pa/nj area is going wheelin' anytime soon and wouldn't mind if I tagged along to see if I will enjoy it. I've got a buddy with a wrangler who might let me borrow it or want to come along too if there is a group going. Neither of us really have any trail experience yet.

Wharton is full of trails with a bit of everything, it may be a little bit far for you. We've had people come up from MD and DE a bunch of times. If you look up Atsion, NJ on a map, it puts you right at about the point where we meet.

 

You've got the right idea. Traction, a little extra ground clearance, and the ability to put torque on the ground. If you mount a winch on a hitch and put a receiver on your front, bring a ****** strap, a few D shackles, a shovel (spade, preferably), some wood planks or those plastic traction mats, some chain, and a high lift jack. Dont forget a tree saver, leather gloves, and a few towels as well. Safety is #1.

Aside from crawling and going through really deep stuff, you'll make it anywhere a 4wd will. You may just have to stop and get yourself unstuck a little more often.
