i have been looking all over for the thread on converting the 3 bulb to 2 bulb tail lights. but not this way. i cant remember who did it maybe lifted97ranger but cant remember. whoever it was cut out a spot in the back of the 2 bulb style to accept the 3 bulb style. does anyone remember this thread. it was probably 2 years ago.
Having separate direction light is safer than the brake directional setup.
Here is an idea.
Get the 05 lights, hook up your brake/running light where it needs to go and hook up the directional lights to the backup light position and use an amber bulb in place of the white.
THEN take the backup light wire and hookup up a relay and new high output backup lights.
Now you have the look of the 05 light, separate directionals and way better backup lights.
If you are interested in this let me know if you have any questions.

All depends on the wattage of the new back up lights.
If the same or less than the OEM lights then extend your wire but if 35 watts each or more run a new pwr wire.
I would pull back or cut the OEM wire for the backup lights and set up a relay activated by that wire. Run a new pwr wire to the rear lights.

Try this write up and adapt it to your setup.

Here is the relay schematic I use.

Pin 85 & 86 are to active therelay
Pins 30 is for a fused line from the battery
Pin 87 is for the or the lights.

Yes and sorry I took the first aux light schematic fond in my folders.
You might want a sw, an on-on type with three poles on back.
Sw up coils be extra light for projects and sw down could be OEM revrse sw.
Light or load wire would be the center pole, battery on one of the other two and the OEM reverse wire on the other pole.
Luck
