Don't think it is possible with 28 spline

if you have the 31 spline mustang disk brakes will work

I don't see how Mustang brakes will work since the axle tubes are bigger on the 31 spline axle. But Shane knows his stuff so I guess it works.

Mustang brakes work on the 28 spline and Explorer brakes work on 31 spline. As far as ordering parts I wanna say that Ford Racing made a kit but it was like $400+

I think the kit was more like 700+ if I remember correctly.

The Ford Racing M-2300-G kit is just a collection of production Gen 2 Explorer rear disc parts gathered in one box for around $400. It will bolt up to the 31 spline axles only like the Level II, Explorer, etc. Since it's a universal kit, it doesn't quite have everything you need.

Stainless Steel Brakes makes a bolt on kit for the 28 spline Ranger axles. The cost is around $800.

There are other rear disc conversions available for $500~900. Some are more complete than others. Here are some links to look at:

TSM MFG. CO., INC.

Rear Disc Brake Instructions

ECI Disc Brake Conversion Kits - Rear

Scarebird Classic Brakes LLC

Wilwood Disc Brakes for Racing On Track, Off Road, and Street Performance

Okay.

I put 12inch vented cobra rear disc brakes onto my axle. it is way easy to do and looks killer. I can get you the link that has the whole set up, everything you need, complete with stainless brake lines, and parts new from ford, for $400. killer deal really.
