I think its time.......V8

Well my 04 4.0 has the oh so amazing timing chain rattle like no other now! its driving me crazy and it would be cheaper for me to do the explorer V8 swap then to get my 4.0 fixed. Sooooo if anyone can help me out here ill take all the advice i can get ex: motors for sale, will my tranny/tcase work with that motor, and anything else i might need.

Cheaper? That's what 95% of everyone who started a V8 swap thought it would be . . .

My entire budget 1 year ago, $2500. I now have over $3k just into the engine. May want to do some serious searching on this, as your questions have also be answered before.

IDK about moving around all kinds of ****, but ^^^^ is incorrect. You use stock v8 explorer mounts. Smakes = FTL.

Honestly...if you just started getting the rattle....you are a wussy. You havn't heard the rattle til you've heard a 01-02 like mine.....lets talk idle, lets talk any rpm, lets talk i've heard it for OVER 60k....

$1600 for a '06 engine with 1,000miles. That's alot smarter than starting out with a 140k 5.0 from a Exploder....

according to that site, you don't need new mounts.

Stop trying to play it off, we know what you meant tard. And why would you fab them when you could just buy a pair for like $5 lol.

You should check out Bob's v8 thread. LOTS of good info in there.

I believe bob did some custom motor mounts on his so he could offset the motor a bit and have enough clearance between the framerail and the transfer case.

How do you come to the conclusion that a motor swap would be cheaper than fixing a timing chain noise. Thats one damn expensive timing chain.

if i take it to fords n do it then it'll be like 1600-1800 to do both of them. this is my way of justifying the V8 :)

i'd guess, if you took the transfer case and the trans outta said exploder with said v8, it would work. i'm guessing that the 4.0 trans is a different bellhousing then either a 5.0 or a 4.6.

The whole point in going with a 5.0 is because there are already motor mounts for our frame for the 5.0.

Before going out and spending A TON on it. Try changing your oil to Royal Purple 5w30 and a motorcraft filter. I have ALWAYS had horrible timing chain rattle even after having my local oil changing place just change my oil. I switched to Royal Purple oil with motorcraft filter and the rattle is gone. Only once in a blue moon can I GET IT TO DO IT when the motor is cold. Give that a try before spending $1000's
