ok so when i go around a curve my 92 feels like it has wheel steering so i thought hey maybe the bearing is going out so i jack it up no play left right or up and down but when i grab the tire and pull out and push in it knocks what do you guys think im stumped

It's normal, just play around the C-clip.

it just started doing this though and the other side doesnt do it it moves in ad out like 1/4 inch

 

so no other ideas?

Well, unless you have a panhard bar, you're gonna get some movement in turns. In and out play on the axle is normal, my old 7.5 had almost 1/4" on one side, about 1/8" on the other. The 8.8 in there now has less than 1/8" on both sides, much nicer. If you just started noticing "rear end steer", check your tire pressures. Either that, or it's been there, and you just now noticed it.

 

but its doing it badly its progressivly getting worse

 

did you check your tire pressures? How about the spring bushings? Basically is the axle end play the only thing you checked? 'Cause until you break the clips and your axle parts ways with the diff, it's not gonna get worse. Start diagnosing, 'cause we ain't there to do it for you, and my hourly rate is more than you want to pay.

 

yes ive check tire pressure everything it feels like a bearing going out ive checked TP hangers everything

 

On you rear end, unless somebody put a 9" under there, a bearing going out will make noise, but not cause linear axle end play, only radial, and you didn't mention any of that, so I'm guessing there isn't any.

But if you think it's the bearing, you prolly know better than us, 'cause we can't check it ourselves, so replace it and see if the problem goes away.

 

Check all the bushings, make sure you dont have any bolts broken or loose, check that leaf hangers on the frame havent rusted loose or broken any rivets, and make sure your lug nuts are tight. That is all I can think of to check.....

 

im just asking if anyone else has expierenced this im new to the ranger ive had it for about 3 months

 

i have a buddy that wants to sell me a rearend out of a 4wd but he wont split it up he wants to sell the front end and rearend and i have no use for the front end i want the rear cause its a locker and mine isnt stupid 1 wheel burnouts lol

 

I really really doubt anything is wrong with your rearend the slack in the wheels when you pull them is normal and all rear axles do it even on chevys and dodges. What kind of locker does that rear have?

 

i call them lockers im not sure if you would call them that its stock posi tract is what my buddy calls it where both tires will spin instead of just one
