You hope you're not screwed. I'd call him and see what the deal is. You never ever give someone the money until they have the title in hand. You should of gone with him to the bank had him get the title released and money exchanged hands there. Now if he pissed off the money instead of paying off the lien, the bank owns your truck. It doesn't matter if you have a receipt, the bank has first rights to the truck. You'll have to try to get your money back from the seller if the bank takes it back.

I went out of state to buy my truck and looked at a few while I was in the area. There was a real low mile 03 FX4 I wanted pretty bad but he didn't have the lien released and couldn't get it released over the weekend. I wasn't going to leave him the money and hope he'd do the right thing.

Get A Lawyer NOW! Then Get the Lawyer to send him a notice saying that you are being represented by ____ _____ and ____ and that if he does not produce a title that you will take him o court and he will be responsible for paying Court Fees as Well as Lawyer Fees...

What Suing is actually made for so Use the System how it was meant to be used

If you only got 425 in the truck you might want to just call the bank and see what it'll take to get the lien released. You might spend more that 425 getting a lawyer involved.

$425 for a ranger? That seems scary low. Hope the truck isn't stolen...

Don't do that.

Because if he is the type of person willing to screw over a buyer (not saying he did... but...), or steal a truck and sell it to someone unsuspecting (not saying he did... but...), chances are he's the type to not look too kindly if someone shows up at his house.

I'm with everyone else. Call your lawyer.

Well if you can't get ahold of him on the phone you could try sending a certified letter. I wouldn't get a lawyer 'cause that's expensive for this early but you can usually contact a local police dept. (might need to deal with yours AND his since he's out of state) and they can help you write a letter that will warn the guy about consequences. Honestly though, it takes some time to get a title... I know when I sold my '99 it took almost a month for the bank to finally mail me the title to the truck.... but I would leave him a calm message saying you're just checking on the title then start working w/ police ASAP... hopefully it all works out...

did i read properly? you started modding a truck that you partially purchased, that wasn't in your name?

i think you got taken. i'd put that bad motor back in and take off all the other stuff and then get ahold of a lawyer or your local police. i'm willing to bet that the truck is either stolen or he beat on it bad and his insurance won't cover the cost and now he's trying to get rid of it but can't because of the insurance knowing that the truck was damaged.

Put the truck back the way it was . Then take the VIN to the local police and have them run it through their system after you explain what's going on .

2 weeks really isnt that long of a time. Ive waited damn near a month waiting on a title to be released before. But then you have to wonder....If you only paid $425 why wasnt it paid off? if it wasnt for that low price i wouldnt stress too bad over it. Good luck buddy.
