actually radar detectors are kinda useless now due to the invention of lidar... with lidar they got you even before you know it... if you want a good radar detector, you are gonna pony up some serious cash, and go for a valentine V1

nope....they detect the presence of radar....your radar detector will beep at the same time Sheriff Buford T. Justice is reading your speed on his little gun

it MIGHT save your butt if you're on a 5 lane highway full of traffic but regular 2 lane blacktop....no

false. lidar is laser, and you must be stationary so 80% of your encounters with speed monitoring will be moving. if they are stationary, a vast majority of police departments dont have lidar or laser, or they rarely use it. and ive sent him three comprable detectors to the v1 already, v1 is just arrows...

and also false. unless you are the only car on the road for a mile in either direction then you will be screwed, in which case you deserve it because using a detector is more than just breaking when it goes off. radar bounces for a while and if a car is in front of you, the police radar will more than likely pick up that car before it hits you, and the detector (if he gets a decent one) will alert well before it locks on him or gives any audible ques.

but enough of that because no one will listen and until you are in a vehicle with a good unit and get to experience it first hand you have nothing to go on but what youve been told, or what has happened when you were with your buddy and he got a ticket even though his cobra was in the window pointing straight up

i agree with you on laser being stationary, but laser moves so fast, and is sooo narrow, its got you before you see them, because they usually aim for a low target on your vehicle such as a license plate

i understand how laser works and have used it, yes. still doesnt dispute what i said earlier about its rarity.

now if it is very common in your area then its youre own fault for seeing it being used and then using a detector, laser jammer is all that can help you in that situation. (yes they work, radar jammers dont)

Is it true that when you put a radar detector high on your windshield, the range is reduced if it has to pass through your tint strip?

My Detector detects and blocks Lidar
Also it warns you of Radar before you get into the range of the radar that will accurately say how fast your going. It uses the parts of the radar that bounce of different objects as well. Get one that has POP detection which is the instant on. It has saved me quite a few times.

Virginia and DC they are illegal to use so i have to be very careful... Mine is invisible to VG2 and Spectra detector detectors. Also Virginia has a new kind of radar that no radar detector manufactures can detect yet. The frequencies have not been released. I believe it is called S-Band.

No your not supposed to put it high on the windshield i dont believe its because of the tint i think it has more to do with it being able to have a view of all your windows

I dunno what type of radars you guys have but mine works fine and tells me in advance when there is a cop coming, especially on the highway. Only way you'd be screwed is if the cop has his speed gun out. Ive been scanned before and the radar just flashed "LASER" lol but his radar was already on in his car so i knew he was up ahead.

i dont know about you guys but we have a lot of ghost cars here and its nice to have a detector for when people are going slow infront and you want to pass. lets you know if theres cops around BEFORE you make any speeding mistakes.

I had a cheap $40 radar detector and it worked great.

I know most say its too late but it isn't. I know numerous times when I was speedy pretty bad 10 MPH+ or more and it would beep, beep,...I would slow down.....Maybe couple more beeps......Then 2 miles down the road it would be going nuts....what do you know a cop.

Now this works the best on straight long roads but I know a few times it would beep on a hilly road and I would slow down and see a cop.

Only bad thing is now most cops will leave the radar off and flip it on and off.
They have new type of radar where you can't pick it up until its too late
Shopping centers and heavy equipment set it off as well

Back in the day I got a ticket going to work and on the way home I got another ticket from the same cop.lol That night I went and got a remote detector the kind u put the dealy in your grill and the control in the cab . I never got another ticket. I used to wave to the cop when i went by. He was always laying in wait for ppl around downhill curves and such.It saved my but plenty of times while i was working out of town. Any way it got me interested and I found a few nice ones between 200 and 250. check out this place . Radar Detectors and Jammers - Reviews & Shopping at Radar Busters

I need one as well, we have photo radar everywhere!!!, cars w/ units on the dash parked on the sides of the roads, on poles in intersections and anywhere for that matter. So they are helpful for giving you a heads up before you speed through and get flashed.. I have heard good things about the higher end beltronics and passport ones.
