Look around near the thermostat housing. It should have 2 wires, one gray/red and the other either gray or light green/red.

Pull the live data with a scanner and see how the computer is correcting your fuel trims. If there is more than 10% correction it is running to lean due to a vacuum leak. STFT's should tell you this.

What sort of Live data scanner do I need? I dont own one..and all advanced can do is tell me if its throwing codes...which I dont know...my cel is burnt out has been for a very long time...
The motors got new o2's new air filter fresh oil fresh tune up...thats sorta stuff
its a 95 2.3l it IS obd2
The truck runs cold..and smells rich...I just found the one vaccum line today
Truck has new thermostat
thats why my next guess was a temp sensor

Also is there any way to test the temp sensor to see if its working properly or reading properly?

I have an innova scanner. It was 240$ with tax from Murrays auto parts. Autozone sells something similar that will check live data. I don't know if there are the same live data capabilities on a 1995.

Thanks for the help
Fixed the Vac Leak
reset the puter
and had Advanced check the codes
Didnt show any codes so yeah
I am seriously considering getting a tunner though for the live data reading/ tweaking in the future

I know scan guage works on the 95 borrowed Robert99's at a meet one day
So I'd assume most of the life data recording stuff would work!

Whenever you clear a code on an obd2 computer it automatically throws a p1000 code. If the engine is running lean and the short term fuel trims are positive to compensate for the unmetered air the p1000 will turn into a p0171/p0174.

I had a really good post for this style of problem but the mods never stickied it.
