just grab a chunk of metal plate about the same size as in the pics. weld on a couple pieces of pipe the angle you want, drill holes for the axle bolts on the pipe, slide the pipe on the ends of the axle and bolt it on done.. bolt the whole thing to the floor of your trailer.

 

yea, it won't be too bad.. that one you posted the link of is adjustable so its universal if i looked at it correctly.. It can't be toooo hard to make.

 

wouldnt be a bad idea to run a strap from the handle bars of the bike to the trailer also.

 

It's more complicated than that...

Seems like you've already got the idea for the piece that attaches to the bike.

Then there's the second piece that's permanantly attached to the pickup bed or trailer... it's got two "latches" so that when you roll the bike past the plate, the two latches will catch the piece attached to the bike.




Yes, it's EASY... if you've got the tools and knowledge to use those tools. I've got no tools. I've got no knowledge.

That's why I'm looking for someone ELSE to make it.

 

oh i see.. didnt know you have any tools.. i was thinking for the latches you could take some regular farm gate latches, weld a piece of plate (not big like 2"x2") on the outside bottom of the pipe, then weld the latches to the plate..

i dont see the point in using the latch.. to me it serves ZERO purpose.. because 1 strap on each side of handle bar to the bed of a truck or trailer will hold a bike with no problems. also if you permanently attached the unit to a truck bed or trailer thats all you can use the bed or trailer for. but if you bolted it on, you can haul your bike, then remove and haul dirt or something else. imo if your looking for something that "complicated" then just buy the damn thing..

 

i've never had a problem wit 1 strap on the handle bars. if its windy or a really crappy road. i'll take another strape from one side around the wheel and to the other side.

 

It's not a problem using straps... it's just more convenient. You don't even NEED straps with this type of system.

And this system isn't that complicated at all. It just locks the rear axle into the device. When not hauling a bike, the ONLY thing mounted to the truck is the metal plate... nothing else.




This is getting off-topic... I still need someone to help me make this thing. I have the plans all set in my head... I'll just need to transfer them into AutoCAD with measurements for the build itself. We don't really need to discuss if this system works or not... it does work.

 

Bump. I found a clearer picture of the system.... simple cutting, welding, and drilling.






Again, it doesn't need to be EXACTLY the same... I just need something that works the same way at a cheaper cost to me. Thankz.

If it's in your head, we can make it here in VT. Bring your plans, I have everything you could possibly need to make it including skills. While we are at it, I can make one for my own trailer, and you can pick up that key!

Regarding the plans, I'll try and find some time this coming week to put them down on paper and scan them in, or use AutoCAD to make the plans... I'll send them your way and you can get me a price. You could even make one for yourself since I'm just somewhat copying PitBull's design.

Oh... I forgot to ask:

What thickness pipes do you have to work with?

What thickness metal plates can you get access for the project?



The pipes are only for the part that attaches to the bike's rear axle... I need to figure out dimensions after knowing pipe sizes.

The thickness of the plates only pertains to the latches... I don't really want a 1/8" plate as a latch... if I need to, I'll make the designs so that I'd have to bolt a few of those plates together to make a thicker latch.
