Since the motor is still there, i am guessing it is not a v8 swap then?

Possibly a port and polish - but that woudl require quite a bit of time.. soo hmm, rebuilding the head or something perhaps?

I cleaned my intake best I could without power tools...because I don't have any....

yeah I'm in the process of restoring her, its been in the family since new and not taken care of as well as it should have, but its a tough little truck, if your going to get the 2.9 get something after '89 because they made the heads slightly better for more gasket life, 4.0 is ideal though.

Of course, hopefully it will last a while, I went in there to fix the leaks once and for all, figured I'd give it a face lift in the process

yeah its all rusty, I wish I could clean it all up but I don't have time

funny story though, i washed and waxed Laura's car(the firebird) and it looked nice, then I washed my truck and it looked like a polished turd....I guess that's what 19 years of new jersey road salt does to a paint job, and I don't have money to respray...
