Built 2 Spare Tire Carriers This Week

Well I don't know how many people of you follow my build thread but I built a tiregate for my truck. Also my friend came over this weekend and we built a bumper and swing out tire carrier for his jeep. Enjoy the pictures.

Not bad!
The only thing I would have done differently is mount the tire lower. Like 6-8 inches lower.

Yeah it folds down like a regular tailgate. I have a picture of it folded down in my project log.

Ya, I made I kind of wish I made it a little bit lower. If bothers me in the future I will lower it down.

double plus good! looks wicked, want to build one for my truck?

you should put a second tank in where your spare tire normally goes... pull some f-150 switching gear from a wrecker!

Latch Clamp, Vertical, 500 Lbs, 1.86 In - Vertical Handle Toggle Clamps - Clamps - Hand Tools : Grainger Industrial Supply

That is what we used for the latching mechanism on the jeep. It was slightly modified to have a little bit of extra security that it will stay closed.

For anyone that wants me to build them one. I would. Just bring me some steel and some beer and I'll go at it. Haha! But I'm sure its a long drive for most of you.
