the boat weighs about 10,000lbs, plus my truck at 4500...

I got a class 4 hitch.... and bottomed out my suspension...

i laid wood plank down, but the trailer slid off the plank into the mud...

this pic was taken last summer... this is where the boat USED TO BE.

after the boat slid off the planks I set up, i dragged it thru the mud... left 1ft deep ruts... I was surprised, actually, that the truck pulled it. I honestly, didnt think it would.

the plan was to have a friend of mine come over with his 2500hd, and pull it out... but I was workin out in the yard today, getting the area ready to move the boat, and said, hell ill try it myself, and if it wont move, then ill call my friend... it moved. And, i found out, that my truck, doesnt really like to have that much weight on it. I moved it like 50ft... and the *** end of the truck was ALL over the place... heh... cant complain tho... your supposed to use a F250/2500 or larger to move that boat.. not a lil itty bitty ranger.

 

haha damnnnnnn thats about all i can say to that look at that I wanna see the ruts!

 

 

Rangers are small but tough, they can handle big stuff like that for a little while. Your truck has been getting a work out lately. What are you planning on doing with the boat now?

 

selling it. Its a 1987 SeaRay Sundancer 268 - 26ft 8 inches long. A 30footer by todays standards. Its got just under 350 hours on it, very very little dock damage, and comes complete with the original EZ Loader trailer, which used to be white, but dad sandblasted and painted it to match the boat about 15yrs ago...

should pulled it into the street and tried taking off fast and see how it held up.. but of course on video lol

 

prolly would turn the drive shaft into a pretzel... that truck is not built to pull so much weight

I myself love to do tht stuff.. jsut to, I dunno.. test the limits a bit, see what my truck can really do.. if I have the proper setup, I'll give it a go, and if it fails, i just call my neighbor over with his F250 and he can give it the ol tug... But I woudl much rather try by myself :-D

 

And watch your tranny take a **** on you in the street? lol... I'll let the HD trucks do stuff like that, stuff THEY were built to do...

haha this thread reminded of a lil mid 80's 2wd truck towin a boat that size maybe bigger on the freeway... the front tires were literally off the ground some of you guys amaze me im surprized his tranny didnt
go my dad blew the tranny twice with in 65,000 mi in his chevy 1500 suberban towin our 6500lb boat but i always tell him its cuz it was a chevy not a FORD

 

im only moving this stuff like 30-40 ft if that. the cube van i pulled 15ft. and stopped. the boat, i pulled a little further like maybe 40-60 ft, and then backed it into where it is now. I had my options, use the 1974 cub cadet lawn tractor, to move it around the driveway (which DOES pull the boat, cause in order to get the boat in the shop, its gotta be on the tractor) or use my truck. Getting it of the lawn wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. And my biggest problem? remembering to disengage the parking brake!

whats cheaper to fix? the tractor? or the ranger? in this case the ranger is actually cheaper. Since if i blow the tranny in the tractor, then the tractor is junk, and i dont have the money to replace that tractor... (think, $8,000 to replace it with a POS by comparison) vs maybe $1000 in parts on the ranger.

And, I'm making a statement to everyone around me, that I dont need them to help me move stuff, i can do it myself.

but i do need to flush my tranny fluid, hasnt been changed completely out since 14,000 miles. and theres 50K on the truck

 

does the cub van not have a class 3+ hitch on it? I would of used that if it did..

thats alot of weight there hope you dont have any problems in the future due to it.
