So went online just for the hell of it and it seems you can't get a L/S now. Also MSRP for a new Ranger with everything is $27K. No thanks.

Oh that's awesome!

I'm curious, did they do this for better mpgs? Aren't discs much lighter than drums?

I know discs stop much better but why after all these years did they decide to change them?

They changed to discs because of the new law. I believe every new vehicle by a certain year has to have a stability control system which in Ford's case is RSC(Roll & Stability Control). The system uses ABS sensors at all 4 corners which is why they went with a disc. The disc vs drum weight wouldn't affect mileage at all since the change is so little.

So, this would be why the brake fluid reservoir is like twice the size they were?

^^In Cananadian though. 27k for a loaded down Ranger here in the states. Effin sucks. in '08, you can have an almost fully loaded XLT(everything but auto) for about 24 out the door.

To add to the 2010 rear axle conspiracy...
  • Supposedly, Ford went 31spline on all the axles. Someone needs to pull a shaft out....hint hint nudge nudge Justin. It's either that or a total complete new housing. Both according to a Ford tech somewhere in this land of the red, white, and blue.

Actually...the fully put a close on these 2010 disc stuff....

  • No, it won't bolt onto your 09 and older axle
  • No, it's not worth the money right now to find a 2010 axle to swap in. Probably won't be in MANY years. And who knows if it'll work on a non-RSC vehicle.
  • No, it's not worth it to look into getting the parts to retro the brakes to your truck
  • You want discs on your 28spline, go COBRA or GT. See DangerRanger01's how-to/informative thread. You want discs on your 31spline, get the bracket from Currie and botl on COBRA or GT brakes.

Why when you can have 12" rotors, cobra calipers, and the Currie bracket for about $400 all new. AND the parking brake is SOOOOOOOO much easier and SOOOOOO grippy with the SN95's. When the Ford Racing explorer kit costs $600?? Mustang/Cobra > Explorer.
