New engine is a 2006 4.0L with a whopping 1,000 miles. Had to drive 200 miles to it, but it's a drive I'm totally used to doing. Not only get I get my new engine, but I spent some time with someone that I really really really like too, so it was a total bonus weekend. My guess is that some dude bought his '06 Ranger 4.0 w/ auto and 4x4, then wrecked it within a month of taking delivery. The guy at the yard said it[the engine] was on a pallet on a shelf since May' 06. Talked 'em down on the price too since it's been in inventory for soooo long.
See wht I'm starting to hate K leafs?
I love having a loading dock!

Oh yeah...it's looking like I can run the stock '06 harness and all the associated sensors too...only thing right now that I know I will need to change is the pigtail for the MAFS, other than that, it appears that's the only real difference in the harness. Before I go all out on using this '06 harness in my '01, I'm going to follow each and every wire coming off the PCM bundle. It looks very good for me to use the '06 harness.

MOAR tease pics Ver. 7.3
This is my one man engine pull job...alot like the one man jack as appeared in the Lifted Grab-Her Body Lift Days thread. lol.
Is this not the best ever location marking you've ever seen?
And guess what, absolutely no alcoholic beverages have been consumed thus far in the swap. A little unlike me when working alone.

I'm going to wheel her out tomorrow or tonight...I plan on detailing the engine bay. Getting rid of all the dried up mud and crustys in there. Maybe she'll have a date with the pressure washer, which I've affectionately called "honda". I'll show pics later of the dried dirt and mud that lies in the gap between the block and the intake manifold....too bad I didn't take pics of the dried mud that was CAKED in the PCM connector. It really makes you think about how you drive in puddles. A good portion of the reason for this was is based on driving in puddles...you know....florida people call it 'muddin'.

I plan on it being ALOT more powerful compared to before. I had that last engine running as efficient as I can and have proven so by my mpg numbers in the past few months. But, the timing rattle was just so bad and me having time on my hands right now, it's the smartest thing to do for me as this is my only running and driving vehicle. Would just suck to land a job and the FNG has to call in because his engine broke. Then he'd be out his newly aquired job.
I'll give a ballpark once its all said and done. She sits as you see in pics...I havn't even touched it yet today.

ok i think i get why you have those tires on now. To lower the front end? Could you do this swap using your 35s on the front?? does the hoist lift the motor far enough over the radiator support?
Im trying to figure out how ill need to pull my motor... I was thinking the hoist wouldnt be able to lift the motor far enough above the radiator support with my 35s on... your thoughts?

I put the small tires on it to aid in the height of the truck while unbolting as well as to make it lower in order to clear the core support. The engine has to come up about 2" before you can slide the trans input off the clutch to clear the motor mount studs, then it just comes right out. I highly suggest using the same Harbor Freight special 'portable' 2ton hoist. I've done all engine outs and ins using the same one, but my buddy's. He cut his up for a bumper, so I had to buy my own. I think the highest it goes is like 9' 6''? Right how it's on sale for $180, but in 4wheeldrive mag and Petersen's there's a 20% off coupon, so the hoist ran me about $140 in the end.
I had '05 steps on there....then I took them off to sell them. Buyer pulled out, and they they stayed off. Then I converted the '07 2dr bars into 4dr bars, and put the driver side on(as seen in pics above). Pass side is sitting in the bed under a pallet, 2 leaf springs, radiator and the inner fenders. So chris, you're right....but opposite.
