L1224R + Niteshades

I was worried I wasn't getting enough light through my niteshaded tails so I ordered some L1224Rs from JP7. Kind of pricey but they arrived on my doorstep 2 days after I paid for em.

I installed them the same way STL did, with a rotary tool and some sockets JP& included with the bulbs. Didn't really take any pics of the installation process since STL did a good job in his thread. These bulbs are brighter then stock but not as bright as I expected. I think this is due to my 01 tail lights and how dark they are shaded. The color is clearly more vivid though. I'm still waiting on my led license plate bulbs and my EP27 flasher from superbrightleds.com

Anways onto some pics.

I let my girl friend drive my ranger around the block and I followed her in her focus.

I didn't take a pic of the running lights in the day light mainly because you can't even tell they are on. I'm thinking about getting some 06 tails and either doing less coats of niteshade or have a shop around here tint (like literally with a special film) them.

Here's a night pic of the brake lights on.

Please excuse my crappy cell pics.

There is another member with a lifted yellow ranger with L1224R's I sold him... his came out very bright. It's hit or miss with night-shaded tails but they are indeed brighter than stock bulbs. Someone can search and find that truck, I don't have it subscribed anymore.

His tails look shaded just as dark as mine yet so much more light is coming thru. Do you think it has to do with him running 06 tails and me running 01s?

I have no experience with nighshading. If ford is like honda, then thier older tail lights have much poorer reflectors then the newer ones (which would make his 06's better than your 01's.) . I've never taken apart 01' tails.

06+ tails are alot brighter than previous years. Even with LED's in the older models they still wont put out the same light output as the new style.

There is a big difference between the 01 and 06 tail lights. The 06 are more of a clear red plastic while the 01 are frosted sort of.

Go for the 06 tails, these bulbs make little difference if you niteshade 01s dark.
