Nice truck, too bad you got a V10. IMO the V10 just doesn't provide the power and efficiency a truck that big needs.

I love that color combo

Nice looking truck. Don't like the V10 either though.

I just couldn't justify the added price of a diesel truck for what the use will be. It will only be used for trips to the lake and hauling my Mustangs around town when needed. Maybe 500-800 miles/month max.

Nice truck! Ditch the nasty chrome mirror caps and get a less funny looking exhaust, otherwise... I like it!

The V10 is a gas hog but it's a great engine and it makes plenty of power. It will just scream at high RPMs to do it, but it will do it.

The chrome will be the first to go on this truck. I have never been a fan of ANYTHING chrome.

Open up that exhaust STAT! That thing needs to breathe under there! I know guys who have went to an all 3 1/2 inch system and picked up nearly 50 horses from it. Replace the cats with high flow units and use a flowmaster 70 series muffler. Wont be too loud but it will sound amazing and that thing will pull anything, and pick up maybe 3 mph.

They got 50HP from putting on a 3.5 inch exhaust?!?! I'm calling BS on that

Horsepower and Flowmaster shouldn't be used in conjunction with each other.

Nearly 50. Yeah man. Dyno tested. I'll try to dig up the graphs. The v10's need to breathe.

Thanks guys. I actually ran across a thread on FordTrucks.com that had a 400+ page thread that discussed the V10 vs PSD (Power Stroke Diesel) issue and feel very good about my purchase. This thing will serve to drive out to the lake once or twice a month and tow the Mustangs, Ranger, and dirtbikes to the race track or the desert once or twice a month as well. I'm sure everyone has their personal beliefs or opinions on this debate as they have the right to. But this truck fits my needs perfectly.

In case anyone in interested in the thread:

Well straight comparing V10's to PSD's is stupid, both engines have undergone many changes since they were put in these trucks.

My friend has a 99 V10 and hates it, he hates towing with it because all the Cummins and PSD guys roll right past him and he gets terrible gas mileage.

So I can't say much about your V10 based just on what I know about the one my friend has.

My dad's 99 PSD 7.3L is a great engine, good mileage, plenty of power.

Ever since the 6.0L the PSD's have gone way down hill.

Each engine has their advantages but just comparing V10's to PSD's is a dumb without considering each generation of their engines.

It's your truck and if you're happy with it, that's good, it meets your needs, which is most important.

The PSD is an expensive investment, but for some guys, they need it.

Good luck with the truck though

Very good points. The initial added cost to the price of the truck plus expensive maintenance and repairs if needed are not what I wanted or needed. No doubt a PSD will out tow any V10 with ease, but this will do it for me.

Agreed. I don't know why so many people bash the V10, it's like they've never driven one. lol

If a person was pulling very heavy trailers a lot, putting a lot of miles on the truck, then the Powerstroke is a no brainer.
However the V10 is a great engine, it's significantly less expensive, and easier/cheaper to maintain.

Driving the V10 is different for sure. It needs higher RPMs to make the power kind of like the 4.0L SOHC. So like I said it will be screaming up the hills with a trailer, but it is designed to and it will do it for a long time. And yes it will use a lot of gas, but it takes a LOT of miles on a powerstroke to make up the difference in fuel savings compared to the cost of the engine. And don't forget the 12-14 quarts of synthetic oil that goes into a powerstroke, fuel filters, etc etc.

Thank you Brian, you put that very well. Took it off-roading yesterday and the V10 performed like a champ. I agree, many people bash this engine without even having driven one.

Been looking for the regular black side mirror covers but the only thing I can find is more chrome crap. I had not even noticed them until you pointed them out. LOL

Back when my dad bought his PSD, diesel was much cheaper, now that its a lot higher, he's a little agitated, but the truck is paid off, so oh well

My friend has sunk so much money into his V10 to keep it running, then again, he kind of abuses it.

My dad, compared to my friend, babies his truck, so maintenance is pretty low.

From what I have read over the years, your friend is the exception with the V10. My dad has had a couple of V10 work vans, put well over 150k miles on them and did nothing but change the oil and fill up the tank. These are on E350 vans that he has fully loaded (usually overloaded) with roof racks, ladders, over-sized tires to get to tower sites, etc.

Again, costs aside the PSD is definitely more enjoyable to drive, but the V10 can be picked up for a whole hell of a lot less money and it makes sense if you aren't going to filling the tank all the time. For a similar price, he would have been looking at a much older PSD with a ton of miles and a whole different can of worms. And anything with the 6.0L diesel needs a fair amount of 'upgrades' to make it reliable IMO.

Fred, don't those caps just pull off? I have no idea. lol
They don't look that bad I just don't like chrome.

I hate chrome. SO much that I swapped out the rear bumper on my 65 Mustang for a fiberglass piece just so it would not be chrome. GOing to keep looking.

Justin, the older V10 engines were somewhat problematic. I have even read of them spitting spark plugs because there were too little threads in the heads. That was up to 01 I think. The V10 in this model year is much better from what I have read. The older V10 engines were a 2V design, this is a 3V design.

i run 2 f450 crew cab v10s and pull 18ft trailers, i think they are alot better then the current 6.0s we have, mileage varies but usually im either loaded or overloaded, they both pull the same to me, i do however think the diesels brake better. just my .02
