The License Plate mod

Eh, How many of you think the license plate on the front looks retarded? If your like me, you think it looks ghey.

So, while my truck was in the garage getting its tires rotated, the underbody thoroughly cleaned for winter, oil change and wax job. I decided to see what I could do with that license plate.

This is what I came up with.

Its probably illegal, but hey, its there and you can read it. Though I think it might need to be pushed up a lil bit as the bottom of the letters are cut off. However I think it looks better...

Its 14 inches acrossed from the end of the frame member where the tow hooks attach. I used a piece of shelving to span the gap. Being that its a piece of shelving it had the holes pre drilled. That made my life easier.

I used self tapping stainless steel screws after predrilling the holes. Then used stainless hardware to attach the plate to the bracket. I used needle nose vice grips to hold the bolt while I tightend the nut.

took about an hour. Did I mention i was HAMMERED when I did this?

Hahahaa working on the truck can be fun but can also be very unsafe/dangerous., especially if you have the truck on any jackstands or jacks, etc.

I too was pondering a way to mount the front plate in that hole

Do you mean that if you have a lot of alcohol in your system, or just in general?

With alcohol in your system. I guess it can be dangerous either way, but with alcohol it would be exponentially more dangerous.

Of course the amount of alcohol, and a person's tolerance, are big factors as well.

I hear ya, man. I gotta work on both of my trucks, and have really lost interest in them as of right now. But, I'll pick back up here soon, just need to start buying stuff again for them.

I think I'd still get pulled over with the plate inside that gap. Our town cops are like puppy dogs that follow you around everywhere, once the sun goes down. Now.. driving into town at 1-2AM is even worse. And I don't want to get stopped if I've had a single beer (the most I would drink before driving is 1 beer).

I might just play it safe and keep it very visible. Our cops are just...bored, and will stop you for dumb ****. My buddy and I got stopped in his Ranger because he had a trailer ball on his factory bumper, and they stopped us because supposedly the trailer ball (which came on the damn truck as far as we know), was obstructing view of the rear plate. I mean .... I just think they could be working on the drug problem in town, not pulling over anyone who drives through at night.

That was the first mod I did to my truck when I brought it home. I cant stand it looks out of place.

I have never had any trouble from the police with mine off either

where i live, if a cop cannot see your plates registration tabs (month/year) you'll get a ticket. it's like a $125 fine. :(

I believe not only would a cop fine you for not properly displaying month and year stickers, but also fine you for defacing a state issued plate. Since you cut it.

He paid for the registration so he pays for the plate. I know it doesn't work that way but still, the plate has been payed for. I pay the state taxes so I pay their salaries. I vote too, they should not be so **** about defacing a license plate.

Here in Arizona we're not required to have a front license plate. They only give you one from the DMV. I guess it's kind of cool where as some other states are more restrictive.
