Looks to be the best color ever made as well:biggthump Good luck!!

seminaryranger 07-24-2009 09:13 AM

That 2005 with the 5.4L doesn't look too bad. Since it's an '05, it should have the 3 valve engine (the 300hp version) and the TorqueShift automatic.

One of the 5.4L problems is the spark plug issue.

Let us know if you do the F250 mod!

What spark plug issue would that be?

They tend to break off in the head when you try to change them.

Good to know, especially since that's one of the first things I'd do when I got the truck. Is there any way to avoid that from happening when you first go to remove the plugs?

whippersnapper02 07-24-2009 09:36 AM

I think if you pour the Motorcraft equivalent of Seafoam into the sparkplug tube and let it sit for a while it will help break them loose. Its called pm3.

Pm toreador4x4 since he works at a dealer.

Thats the TSB for it. Turn them 1/2 turn pour in PM-3 and let it sit for a while and then try it again. Some still might break though, I plan on taking it to the dealership and just having them to do it. Its kind of the luck of the draw if the break or not when you remove them, just take your time. Theres ways to get them out if the break so its not the end of the world, its just kind of a pain.

zabeard 07-24-2009 10:10 AM

yeah kind of a pain! lol it only makes a 100$ spark plug job at 2300$ job at the dealer. its like 400+ a plug if one breaks. something outrageous.

The 250 we saw on Wednesday was really nice, but we couldn't talk them down past $23,400 so we left. I am going to see this one today after work and take it for a test drive. It's got nearly twice the mileage, but the starting price being over $4,000 below is enough for me to overlook that.

nice truck! i like the color too

whippersnapper02 07-24-2009 10:56 AM

The fact that Snap On had to make a special extraction tool scares me. I'd rather not deal with the problem ever.

winks 07-24-2009 05:46 PM

Alright... they wouldn't come down to the price I wanted for that truck, which was 17,500. The truck had some body damage done to the rear that I wasn't too happy with.

So here I am now, looking at a 2004 F250 with 39,000 miles, priced at $20k, and a 2005 F250 with 55,000 miles priced at $18.5k.

Before somebody mentioned that the 2005 was a 300hp motor, is the 2004 5.4l motor good or bad compared to that?

04blackedge 07-24-2009 10:22 PM

The 04 5.4 is the same motor I belive

I have it, and use it most when oem plugs are taken out after 100k-150k, Its a pretty nice tool.

Roddy 07-25-2009 12:54 AM

that f150 is a 4.6

winks 07-27-2009 11:13 AM

Truck shopping on a budget sucks. Nobody will come close enough to our offers we've been making around here.

winks 07-27-2009 02:37 PM

I've nearly got the 2005 F250 (DSG)! They just came down another $500 to try to get me to buy. I told them to knock off another #400 for body damage... I love and I hate this barganing ****... it gets my heart rate to the equivalent of drinking 3 redbulls.

04blackedge 07-27-2009 02:42 PM

Haha yeah I'm the same way, I just have to remember to not let my excitement show when I'm dealing with them. Its defintly a rush doing it, I could have so gotten more off on my truck but just didn't try hard enough.

seminaryranger 07-27-2009 02:55 PM

It gets my heart beatings fast too.
I think you'll like that truck if the deal works out. The 3 valve motor makes somewhere around 40 more hp than the older 2 valve motor. In my 2009 the engine pulls really hard once it gets to about 3000rpm. The 4L OHV in my 99 Ranger started to run out of breath fast in the upper RPM range. The 5.4L likes to rev.

Keep us posted how the dealin works out.

winks 07-27-2009 08:47 PM

OH YEAH!

I'll buy you one if you pay me $1,456,013.89 first, deal?

We ended up getting the truck for $400 more than we offered, 600 less that the dealership offered. They ended up taking a loss on the truck -not my fault as I stated to them. Luckily the person we were dealing with was cool, she got us as close to our price as she could. We pick the truck up tonight, it's just got to get detailed on the outside. I'll probably have pics of it up tomorrow.

casfz1 07-28-2009 06:32 AM

Congrats on the new truck.

winks 07-28-2009 06:43 AM

Thanks Chad.

04blackedge 07-28-2009 08:22 AM

Congrats! Not much beats the feeling of a new truck. I might have missed this but did you trade your ranger? How much did they give you for it?
