Trent, Im pretty sure he kept the ranger.

winks 07-28-2009 08:37 AM

No Sir. The Ranger will most likely never see the other side of an auto trade. I love the truck too much to give it up. Plus, it's all paid off, so keeping it really isn't hurting much at all.

herm59 07-28-2009 10:18 AM

Very cool John. Congrats. Now let the modding begin or is it time to give the Ranger a suspension lift?

winks 07-28-2009 10:26 AM

Not sure as of yet Herm. I may be buying a 92 Bronco for a cheap price, and I may transfer the lift over to that and scrap the 89. If I do, the Ranger stays as is for now... it's still my DD as of the moment, the F250 will be split between my wife and I. We've now got 5 vehicles to chose from!

herm59 07-28-2009 10:38 AM

Nice. I hope once I move back home I'll be able to spend some time on my Bronco. 5 vehicles you say, must be nice.

winks 07-28-2009 10:41 AM

By moving back homre, you mean to Tom's River? We might be able to meet up off the trails a bit then.

5 vehicles is nice, but we don't have the greatest selecion...
89 Bronco, 98 Escort, 04 Ranger, 05 Liberty, and now the 05 F250.

herm59 07-28-2009 10:50 AM

Yep, back to good ole Toms River. Defiantly hit up some trails. This time I'll grab my brother in his Taco.

Well 4 out of 5 vehicles have 4 wheel drive. Still not too shabby.

Unless I get the 92 Bronco... I could put the Escort onto the 89 Bronco's frame. :scool:

I believe that is what you should do. That would be amazing. I'll swing by and help out. Then bring it out out to Wharton and show it off.

Quite tempting, but I think this is a task more attainable by Crazzyearl, I know he'd do it too.

herm59 07-28-2009 12:09 PM

Haha, well he didn't get the name Crazyearl for nothing.

winks 07-28-2009 12:13 PM

Yep, and it's two z's, cause he's super nuts.

winks 07-28-2009 09:22 PM

Just for you Walter: :comp[1]:

As for the dealership, yeah they suck. I was told specifically by the salesperson that there was a powertrain warranty of 6 years, 60k miles. Of course when we're sitting down with the numbers guy, he tells us that there's no warranty, and their minimum powertrain warranty is going to cost us about $500 a year/5 years for only 3 years of protection. I told the sales person and she said it's too high anyhow, she told me to check out the Fidelis extended warranty or something like that. Then when we get home, we look at the window sticker, and WARRANTY is clearly checked off. Gotta call them about that today. I love it.

Off-roadranger04 07-29-2009 07:55 AM

congrats man.... my next truck will be a super duty and well

need more pics tho!!

herm59 07-29-2009 08:30 AM

Those numbers guys are all jackass's. All they do is try to F you over more then you have already been. They don't know d*ck about the vehicle your trying to buy. Yea call them up and raise holy hell. I'd go straight to the manager. BTW where did you end up buying it from?

05RangerXLT 07-29-2009 09:54 AM

I know they tell you they are losing money on the vehicle, but I honestly NEVER believe that. They can't be in business and lose money on every vehicle. I have been told that many times, and after hearing it, I leave. They call back and offer you the price you offered them to begin with. This is coming from a lot of experience. In just the year 2008 I went from my 2005 Ranger 4x4 to a 2007 F150 SCREW 4x4 to a 2000 Honda Prelude SH to a 2008 Subaru WRX Nav Edition and now to a 2005 Ranger FX4. Let's just say in 2008 I was very active in local dealers!

Not gonna raise holy hell unless I have to. I'm going to call up and talk with the salesperson before I talk to the numbers guy. I think I've got a good read on her, and she'll be able to straighten things out. I bought the truck at Loman Ford in Woodbridge.

I hear you on that. I walked out on a total of 3 trucks, didn't matter they were being sold for less or not. I went in with a set price, and I pretty much met it.

Typically at a dealer the trade comes in for X amount. The dealer straight up adds Y amount to that and lists that as the value in the inventory sheet. You could sort of call that like a hold back, it's usually not that much. It's to keep the lights on and pay their lease, etc. Then the car goes through an inspection, typically a flat rate and the maintenance department makes a killing (screws the sales department), and adds Z to the value in the inventory sheet. Also add anything that needs fixed, paint repairs, dent removal, tires or whatever to make it ready to resell.
Now the truck that was bought on trade in for $15,000 lists as $17,500 or something on the inventory sheet as what the dealership owns the truck for. Anything less than that is when they are 'losing money' on a sale. The sales manager makes nothing on it, the salesperson gets $100, and everyone's numbers look bad.
The finance guys usually make more, often on interest rates (always best to arrange financing with your own credit union/bank ahead of time), warranties, undercoating, etc.

brianjwilson 07-29-2009 11:24 AM

Congrats on the new truck! We need more pictures!
I can't tell with your posts what truck you actually bought either, lol.
However a lot of the newer trucks came from the factory with a 6 year/60k mile powertrain warranty or something like that.
