finally got back home

around dawn. decided to have a photo session with my bug.

an hour later

no that horrid tape deck is not staying. i had to fill the hole in the dash with something b/c the previous owner cut the old sapphire out and then tried to plaster a block off plate into the dash. i found that tape deck in the basement of a friend so i threw it in. i have another dash to weld in next summer when the bug goes under the knife for cancer repair. once i finish my volksrod ill have another ride so that i can go through the 60 to repair what little rust there is. but first im helping a buddy of mine finish his 1965 bug, and then we'll jump into the volksrod. ill try to find some pictures..

here is steve's 65 that we are working on:

here is the beam, narrowed 5 inches and welded in adjusters. without the shocks and adjusted all the way down this should give us about 6.5 to 7 inches lowered.

to compensate for lowering the rear 2 clicks we have raised the transaxle 2.5 inches.

now steve wont have a problem with negative camber. as you can see we have our work cut out for us. we hope to have it running by february.

here are my best friends rides. chris' 1970 Cal-look on the left, steve's solid axle 1972 superbeetle, and sam's 1972 standard volksrod.

had some personal matters to attend.

that and my distributor decided that 45 years of service was enough. it is quite frightening when your car makes a loud POP!!! and all power (what little my 40 horse offers) goes out the window, when you are running 70mph on the highway. so 11 hours and several emergency phone calls later i had a new distributor and was on my way. well, it isnt exactly new. its an untested 009 that was left in a buddy's car when he bought it. its all i had access to until i got home. now im here, and i can get the proper parts i need.
