New project: Low Rider Wagon
Started another project as if I don't already have enough irons in the fire! This is a father/daughter project. Been wanting to build a custom low rider radio flyer for a while now. Well, finally got all the stuff I need. My mom brought me a wagon she had back around Thanksgiving. Picked up some square tubing and some thick sheet metal this past weekend while back home. Only thing missing was the front suspension. Bought a prefabbed kit off ebay. So today, Madison and myself got the wagon stripped down to just the tub. Went back out after dinner and cut 80% of the tubing cut for the chassis. Just need to hit the welding supply for some gas, and wait for the front suspension to show up.
Before tear down:
Torn down and mocked up at "ride height":
Chassis laid out and ready to be welded:
Rear axle ready to be welded:
Front axle/steering:
Plans are to leave the paint alone for now, leave the frame in bare steel (for a short while). May get the frame powder coated later one. Not sure if I will paint the body later on, time will tell. Going to cut a piece of wood to sit down inside, covered in a diamond'd leopard micro fiber, with red leather buttons. Should be a pretty quick and easy build once I get my gas.

I made it to the welding shop with just minutes to spare. dropped the wife off at work at 4:30, took 25 minutes to drive through town. put the tank in the car and was pulling out at 4:58! they close at 5. got the main frame tacked in place. i haven't welded with a MIG in so long, and haven't really welded with this welder since i bought it a year ago. I'm happy with it so far!
i have a harbor freight wagon on 10" tires. so that's my "lifted" one. original plans where to use treaded karting tires, but i can't afford them plus the hubs, etc. so for now, i'll be using the wheels that came with it. i may try to find some smaller tires for the front, and put duals out back! looking for some bicycle fenders as well.
sounds good. not sure how fast it'll be. low and slow!

that's cool. i have ran across a couple deals on ebay, but most go out of my price range at the last minute!
Made it to the welding shop yesterday with minutes to spare. spent a few hours tonight getting the frame and axle supports welded up. got the mounting plates and the nuts for the axles welded on. I found out the wagon is a Hamilton, probably made in the early 50s and pretty rare. anyways, here are the pics.
body sitting on frame:
with two wheels!
I left the frame long until I get the front axle, which shipped today! I was looking at it and I think i'm gonna leave it long and build a mini tool box to go on front of the main body. I want to put a light on the front and rear, leds of course. So i'll need a spot to mount a battery etc. I think that place would be perfect.

The wagon is looking good Troy. Are you just lowering it? Or going to do something like this?

I built a lowrider cart to tow behind my tractor a while back, its 4ft wide by 8ft long sits on 6 10" pneumatic wheels, the 4 corners swivel and the middle to are strait, coverd in some plywood and some old office carpet i had lying around its total height off the ground is about 5-6 inches or so. i used some angle iron and my trusty welder. i only needed it to to some major tree renovation at my moms place, then i donated it to the local high school band so they can cart their stuff around competitions and home games.
