Looks good. I want to install one but I am too scared to cut the headliner and hate wiring things.

Explorer Overhead Console ---> 07~08 Ranger

Console Power: Yellow/Gray ---> White/Blue (white wire with blue stripe - radio harness)
Console Ground: Black ---> chassis ground
Console Night Dim: Light Blue/Red or Red/Black ---> Blue/White (blue wire with white stripe - radio harness)
Console Maps: Green/Orange ---> Violet/Red (radio harness)
Console Dome: Black/Blue ---> Green/Blue (above factory dome)
Console VSS: Gray/Black ---> Purple/Orange (pin #1 of the center PCM connector)

These two would be wired separately from the truck harness:
Console temp: Dark Blue/White ---> Temp sensor Dark Blue/White
Console temp: Dark Blue/Yellow ---> Temp sensor Dark Blue/Yellow

[Important: the 2007~2008 Ranger no longer has practical way to tap the "Battery Saver" feature for use with the Ex console map lights. So, if a map light is wired to a constant hot (Violet/Red as shown above) and it is inadvertently left on overnight, it could kill the battery. An alternative would be to wire the maps to the keyed console power (White/Blue referenced above). Of course, then the maps would only work with the key in the RUN or ACC position. It's a matter of preference.]

Josh, the info that I posted above is for 07 and 08 and possibly 09. Your 2006 is different. Rangers seem to get a wiring overhaul about every 3~4 years.

The basic wiring information in John Griggs's How-to is correct for 2001~2003 Rangers and should also be adaptable for some earlier years as well. The added color code info in the how-to for "2004+" is correct for 2004~2006 EXCEPT the VSS wire which was eliminated in the SJB for 2005~2006 (as you found out).

Unfortunately, I don't have a way to contact John to ask him make the corrections in his CarDomain page.
